Social Security benefits for widow

A recent widow, who was on social security, asked me, how much social security will she be receiving now that her spouse passed away?

Answer, since this woman’s earning history supported a lower social security amount than half of her husband’s, she was getting until now 50% of her husbands benefit, in addition to what her husband was getting, now that her husband passed away, she is entitled as a survivor to 100% of his benefit instead of the 50%, she was getting until now.

The result is that the household is now receiving 2/3 of the social security amount that they received prior to the husband passing away.
